Fighting the Force, the same developers who brought us Tomb Raider, looked very promising from the very first reports. It seemed like the ultimate beat-em-up game, redefining the genre for 32-bit systems and more. Unfortunately, the game begins with strength, but it becomes an exercise in futility at or around the second level. The game allows four character options, each with its own strengths. In fact, it does not really matter which character you choose. They may have different attacks and planes, but they are all relatively interchangeable. The typical range of punches, kicks, and draws attention. Players also have a special attack that erases all enemies around them at the cost of something from their life bar. Needless to say, originality is not one of the strengths of combat strength. The game is basically a 3D version of Capcom's classic Final Fight, except the characters and enemies do not have the personality that made the final fight exciting. Also, using a 3D environment causes some problems. Most notable of
these is that armed enemies have the ability to exit the screen.Graphically, the combat force does the job. The characters move and look well detailed, albeit somewhat block. The funds are decent, but they seem a bit too static. Maybe a little more entertainment could have been used to bring the atmosphere to life for a bit of gaming. The sound does not help much here either. It's tolerable, but that's all.Playing the game is simple, but it could have been a little simpler. Core chose to assign multiple tasks to a single
button, although there are many free buttons on the PlayStation controller. Therefore, try to grab someone sometimes to make your player to perform a reverse attack, leaving it open for punishment. However, it is not really important, since you only need to use a button to play the game anyway. In fact, you can even beat the final boss of the game by simply walking towards him and hitting the X button until death. It will simply block your attacks, taking a small amount of damage each time you do it. He will not be able to hit back, even with the game set hard. You do not even have to worry about watching the screen.
The rest of the game is fairly easy, even though you will have to walk a little actually. The only thing clean in combat strength is that there are some different branches of levels depending on how you go.Overall, I can not recommend buying the Combat Force unless you're prepared for an uninspired chip to do a final 3D fight or Streets of Rage. If you are an absolute demon beat-em-up, and check your courage, but prepare for a fast and imperfect game.
