Sometimes a mediocre game can seem worse than a total failure. When playing an awesome game, obviously, you can usually safely put aside and move on to something better. But mediocre games like Innerloop Studios IGI 2: Covert Strike trick you into thinking that there may be something great just around the corner, only to repeatedly disappoint. The previous game, Project IGI, the shooter was above average, when released in 2000, despite some serious shortcomings. But things have changed since then - more games and more sophisticated, elegant action, like the Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, No One Lives
Forever 2 and Tom Clancy Splinter Cell have raised the bar for action games. However Innerloop has fallen below it with IGI 2, which is an action game that may seem interesting if it was released in 2000, but is mostly forgettable now.In IGI 2, you play as a former soldier SAS David Jones, a secret agent who now works for the Institute of Geotactical Intelligence imagination. You never know at first if you have not read the box and the manual before playing, though. Your game itself only puts into action without any decent regulating or explanations. What exactly IGI? Who is David Jones; Who knows; Who cares; Attempts by the plane fall narrative throughout the game. This would not be a problem if IGI 2 was a game of direct action, but, as the first report of the mission says to start the game, «stealth will be crucial." To be fair, IGI 2 at least gives a measure of visibility that gives a good idea of how easy it can be seen without resorting to guesswork. you can change the Jones move between running and walking, and you can also choose standing, squatting and lying positions, which have significant impact on how you are.
IGI 2 seems to have some basic tools to promote interesting game based on secrecy, but in practice, the stealth elements often tedious, frustrating, or applied too obvious. Very often, it gives the feeling that the designers IGI 2 were after some manual action of some kind of game design. You will find the levels will obviously have to sneak up behind a protective and neutralizing, or levels that are supposed to be clear to duck behind a stack of boxes to avoid being discovered by a security camera. In fact, IGI 2 can make you feel like you're jumping through hoops than pull daring feats dramatically, so you may be tempted to forget about caution and start shooting things.
